Records: Seymour homicide victim called 911, dispatcher heard shooting

MARYVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) – Dispatchers “heard a loud noise” while on a 911 call with a man who was later pronounced dead at a Seymour home on July 25, according to court records charging a suspect.

An affidavit of complaint issued by the Blount County General Sessions Court on July 26 revealed some additional details from the incident. Previously, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office shared that the shooting took place Thursday evening at a residence on Maples Road in Seymour and one person was dead. Robert Paul Berry , 40, of Maples Road was charged with criminal homicide.
Court documents state that the victim, Clinton A. Lovingood , 51, had placed a 911 call to the Blount County Communications Center and requested law enforcement for a disturbance between him and Berry. Before law enforcement’s arrival to the scene, dispatchers advised them that they “heard a loud noise” via the open 911 call with Lovingood.
Shortly after, Berry placed a call to the 911 center, the affidavit states, and told dispatchers that he had shot the victim. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Lovingood had been shot in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary autopsy reports state that the cause of death as Homicide, the affidavit states. Berry is scheduled to appear in court on July 31 at 1:30 p.m.
