The Green Bay Packers haven’t been shy in their intentions about having a kicking competition this offseason after the struggles of Anders Carlson last season. Carlson made 27-of-33 field goals as a rookie but noticeably had issues kicking the ball 40-plus yards out as he was 7-of-13. Based on those issues, the Packers signed veteran Greg Joseph and rookie free agent James Turner to give Carlson some competition.

7-23-24 senator baldwin, governor evers highlight impact of $49 million investment in wisconsin tech hub in milwaukee
MILWAUKEE, WI – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers toured Milwaukee Area Technical College’s (MATC) workforce training facility to celebrate the $49 million investment Baldwin brought home for Wisconsin’s Tech Hub to grow the state’s personalized medicine and biohealth sector – advancing research and innovation, growing our economy and creating jobs, and boosting American competitiveness in a cutting-edge industry. During the visit, Baldwin and Evers, who were joined by MATC President Anthony Cruz and other consortium members, toured the facility and discussed the growing opportunities for Wisconsinites to get the education and training for jobs in this up-and-coming sector. “Jobs, jobs, and more jobs. That is what this Tech Hub will mean for Wisconsin,” said Senator Baldwin. “Whether it is in a high-tech lab, behind a computer, or on the production line, our Tech Hub is going to create all sorts of opportunities for Wisconsinites in a growing field. It was so great to be at MATC to see how our Tech Hub partners will help people get the skills they need to land a family-supporting career, grow our Made in Wisconsin economy, and ensure our state continues to lead the world in innovation.” “It is no secret that Wisconsin’s multi-billion dollar biohealth industry is a huge economic driver that supports tens of thousands of jobs across the state. The state has been a committed partner in the Tech Hub process since the very beginning, and I am glad my administration could do its part to help bring this important designation to Wisconsin,” said Governor Evers. “I want to thank Sen. Baldwin and the Biden-Harris Administration for their leadership and partnership in this important effort, as well as the support of MATC and other members of our BioHealth Consortium. Together, we’re ensuring Wisconsin continues to lead the way in innovation in this cutting-edge field.”
7-23-24 rep. born-one year post budget column
When Legislative Republicans went to work crafting our state budget that went into effect just over a year ago, we coined it the Made for Wisconsin budget. By that we meant our budget would be made for all of Wisconsin, so regardless of whether it’s the City of Beaver Dam, rural Forest County or the City of Milwaukee, our budget invests in your community. Looking back, we can see these investments making a real impact in our state. Look no further than the shared revenue increase that brought millions of dollars to counties, towns, villages and cities throughout Wisconsin for critical services such as infrastructure and public safety. While every community saw at least a 20% increase in funding from the state, our reform gave many smaller communities that have been left behind by the previous funding formula an even bigger bump. We also continued our commitment to funding schools with over a billion dollars of new money in K12 education. This included general aid, along with categorical aid in key areas that we know students are struggling such as mental health, literacy and special education. These dollars are making a difference for students in schools throughout Wisconsin. Another major investment our budget made is in capital projects. This doesn’t only include state office buildings in our cities; it includes a dam in Pattison Park in Douglas County, fire equipment at the Crandon Ranger Station, trail improvements in state-owned property, and so many more. With a significant one-time surplus to start last budget, we were able to do even more to build up our state’s infrastructure. While these thoughtful investments are making a positive impact in our communities, there is one spend that would have helped individuals, families and businesses throughout our state: meaningful tax cuts. Unfortunately, Governor Evers disagreed and vetoed billions in tax relief, keeping taxpayers’ hard-earned money in Madison rather than sending it back to those who overpaid. In six months, the legislative budget season will begin ramping up again. Between now and then, I look forward to hearing from my constituents about how our most recent state budget impacted them, so we can continuing enacting budgets that are made for Wisconsin.

The emergency department and facilities at the Medford hospital will be prepared to address labor and delivery issues that may arise after the transition, according to the president of Aspirus Health’s Northwest Wisconsin Division. One of the main reasons for the transition is …you guessed it, a lack of staffing. It has been a challenge to recruit OB/GYNs especially in rural areas. Aspirus says it is committed to Medford and the surrounding area. Full Story.
