Wisconsin, in a first, to unveil a Black woman's statue at its Capitol
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — About 1,000 people are expected at a gala event this weekend as Wisconsin finally honors a person of color with a statue at its state Capitol. Workers lowered the shrouded statue of Wisconsin Secretary of State Vel Phillips into position outside a Capitol entrance Tuesday, and then encased it in a crate ahead of Saturday’s unveiling. “This is beautiful,” said Michael Johnson, a civil rights advocate who came up with the idea and led efforts to raise $700,000 to cover the costs. Black actor Larenz Tate is set to host, with Gov. Tony Evers and Phillips’ son, Michael, among the attendees.

Tickets for Polar Express Train Ride at National Railroad Museum to go on sale July 27
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAW) - Tickets for The Polar Express Train Ride at the National Railroad Museum will go on sale at 10 a.m. on July 27. The shows typically sell-out in a day. The Polar Express is a magical re-creation of the classic children’s story. Before the show, people can stroll among the decorated trees in the Festival of Trees, explore the full-size trains, or play games. The show begins with the hot chocolate dance. There is also a reading of the Polar Express book. The conductor will then call “All Aboard,” inviting guests to ride the Polar Express to the North Pole.

New Packers Kicker Fumbles First Chance to Impress
The Green Bay Packers haven’t been shy in their intentions about having a kicking competition this offseason after the struggles of Anders Carlson last season. Carlson made 27-of-33 field goals as a rookie but noticeably had issues kicking the ball 40-plus yards out as he was 7-of-13. (WFRV) – Gas prices have risen around 13¢ since last week, causing motorists to pay more at the pump and less on personal items. Tuesday’s current average for regular fuel in Wisconsin hit $3.43, compared to $3.31 a week ago. If you go back a month ago, the average was $3.29.
