Gould is in his first season as Rolling Hills High School's football coach in the Chicago suburbs, and he picked up his first win as head coach on Friday, when the Mustangs went on the road and <a href="https://www.dailyherald.com/20240906/prep-football/johnsons-3-td-passes-helps-gould-win-1st-game-at-rolling-meadows/" rel="nofollow"> knocked off </a> Conant, 34-12. It’s the second game of the season for Gould; the Mustangs lost the season opener 28-14 at Pekin a week earlier. I’m in this because I want to give something back.” Gould spent most of his <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/gouldrob01.htm" rel="nofollow"> 18-year NFL career </a> with the Bears but finished his time with the 49ers, kicking for the red and gold for the final six seasons of his career. He was a dynamite kicker for the Niners, making 87.5% of his field goal attempts and 96.1% of his extra points. The right-footed Gould was also perfect in three 49ers playoff runs, making all 40 kicks he attempted (21 field goals, 19 extra points). Gould couldn’t help but think about his former team when looking back on the memory. “We didn’t win it all or even make it to the Super Bowl that season, but man, that one felt good,”&nbsp;Gould said. “I’ve always had a healthy respect for the Packers and that fierce Bears-Packers rivalry. More than anything, though, I just absolutely love Bears fans. So to hit a huge kick like that, on the big stage, to continue my streak of never missing a kick in the playoffs and to also make Chicago happy in the process by taking down its rival? It was the best of both worlds.” The 49ers and Gould <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/robbie-gould-leaving-san-francisco-49ers-17820041.php" rel="nofollow"> parted ways </a> after the 2022 season, with San Francisco selecting Michigan’s Jake Moody in the third round of the 2023 draft to <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/49ers-kicker-problems-jake-moody-injury-18336508.php" rel="nofollow"> replace Gould </a> . Gould officially announced his retirement last December and hinted at the idea of coaching in The Players’ Tribune post — albeit for a younger audience. “And in my book, a Little League position titled ‘Coach Rob’ has a pretty nice ring to it,” Gould wrote. Now, after a loss in the season opener, Gould has a win under his belt with the Mustangs.
