Henderson/Getty Images) </figcaption></figure> Emmanuel Acho has been one of the biggest advocates for the <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/" rel="nofollow"> San Francisco 49ers </a> in the sports television debate show circus for a few years now. But with the Niners dropping <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/something-is-off-49ers-everyone-avoiding-what-19821556.php" rel="nofollow"> two shocking losses </a> to fall to 2-3 this season, Acho has changed his tune on Fox Sports 1’s “The Facility” morning show and been intensely critical of Kyle Shanahan ahead of the Thursday night matchup with the Seahawks. On <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UmLSKd6qiE" rel="nofollow"> a Wednesday segment </a> that asked if it was panic time for the 49ers, co-host <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/lesean-mccoy-fabricates-eagles-49ers-storyline-17741280.php" rel="nofollow"> LeSean McCoy </a> said Shanahan needed to “earn that check” and turn the season around. Kyle Shanahan is calling plays like he wants to show off.” <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/niners-trent-williams-tipping-plays-17590343.php" rel="nofollow"> Acho </a> focused on Shanahan’s decision to go pass-heavy to open last week’s game against the Cardinals, with the 49ers calling eight pass plays out of their first nine — particularly because the Commanders gashed the Cardinals on the ground <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/202409290crd.htm" rel="nofollow"> in the week prior </a> and the Cardinals are one of the NFL’s <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/crd/2024.htm" rel="nofollow"> worst defenses </a> against the run. “The 49ers are in trouble until Shanahan gets out of his own way, because right now, he is in his own way,” Acho said. “He is what’s stopping this offense. … I need Shanahan to get out of his own way immediately.” Co-hosts McCoy, Chase Daniel and James Jones immediately pounced on Acho before he could start his segment, pointing out how Acho is usually quite complimentary of the 49ers and Shanahan. To them, Acho had turned on his guy. They didn’t outright agree — Jones said the 49ers don’t give him “that Super Bowl feeling” this year and Daniel focused on Charvarius Ward’s “weird” <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/michaelsilver/article/49ers-cardinals-loss-questions-19819927.php" rel="nofollow"> comment </a> to Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle earlier this week, seeing that as indicative of major problems with the team this season. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.) All agreed that the 49ers are in trouble, though. And when Thursday’s show came around, “The Facility” spent the first 20 minutes talking about the 49ers again, with the show’s on-screen graphic asking whether Shanahan or Purdy had more pressure on them for Thursday’s game. <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/emmanuel-acho-generational-trauma-column-17767380.php" rel="nofollow"> Acho </a> was clear in his assessment that the answer is Shanahan —&nbsp;and repeated many of the same talking points from Wednesday. This time, McCoy flipped on&nbsp;Acho, saying Shanahan being one of the best coordinators in football means people shouldn’t be critical of him and how he calls plays —&nbsp;despite the fact that McCoy himself was critical of him on Wednesday. Acho defended his criticism and doubled down on it. “Only one person in this world, in my mind, has ever lived perfect. Everybody else can get rebuked. Everybody else,” Acho said. He then repeated the point before he added: “Just because you live good don’t mean you can’t do wrong. Shady, you live good, big dog, but every now and then, you do wrong. “Just because you’re one of the greatest running backs ever and Shanahan’s one of the greatest coaches right now don’t mean I can’t call them out.” Whether Acho continues to call Shanahan out or flips back to singing his praises will likely be determined on Thursday night, when the 49ers play the Seahawks in Seattle at 5:15 p.m. Pacific. The game will be streamed on Amazon Prime and simulcast on television on KTVU-TV.
