The state assembly has approved a new bill that increases penalties for assaults against law enforcement officers. The legislation, backed by Attorney General Brenna Bird, raises the penalties for assaults involving dangerous weapons or intent to inflict serious injury from a class “D” felony to a class “C” felony. It also escalates penalties for other assaults on police and first responders from a serious misdemeanor to an aggravated misdemeanor.

“Our law enforcement and public safety heroes work a tough job to keep us safe,” said Bird during a subcommittee hearing. “We are sending the message loud and clear that assault on our officers will not be tolerated.”

The bill includes a minimum sentence of seven days in jail for certain offenses, such as spitting on law enforcement or correctional officers. The legislation aims to enhance protection for law enforcement officers and first responders as they perform their duties. It has now moved to the next legislative stage for further debate.

What about the penalty for cops assaulting people?? what about transparency and accountability for law enforcement who violate people's rights and perform brutality on civilians???? What are you going to do to those hero cops that commit those same crimes that they took an oath to protect people against tyranny and brutality??? When are y'all going to make it swing both ways???
