Child Well Being in Coffee Co. / Bedford Co. - In Bottom Half of Tennessee Counties.
The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth has released its County Profiles of Child Well-Being in Tennessee for 2024. At 68th, Coffee County is in the bottom half of Tennessee counties in child well-being. Coffee County’s strongest indicator is the percent of public school kindergarteners with the full immunization. Bedford County is 72nd in child well-being. According to the state, the county’s biggest challenge is the percent of children without health insurance, where it ranks 90th.

Largen and Young split top prizes on the PremierBilliards.com’s Q City 9-Ball Tour
Keith Young and Scott Largen came into this past weekend’s (July 13-14) stop on the PremierBilliards.com’s Q City 9-Ball Tour looking for their first (recorded) victory in a regional tour event and in a way, they both found it. They met twice, hot seat and double-elimination final. Largen won the former and Young took the opening set of the true double-elimination final before they entered into negotiations for a split of the top two cash prizes. Largen was determined to be the ‘official’ winner. The event drew 45 entrants to the Borderline Brunswick Arena in Bristol, TN.
Sunflower Festival sees record-breaking crowd
The Mountain City Annual Sunflower Festival continued its trend of immense growth for another year. People from near and far spent the hot summer day enjoying local talent, shopping from the over 220 vendors, viewing the largest Deputy Allen Lipford Memorial Car Show to date, and enjoying the other provided attractions. This local event earned the Pinnacle Award Event of the Year and featured live sunflowers for the first time through a partnership with Doe Valley Farm.
