State To Continue Testing Water After Train Derailment
Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection will continue to test water in Western PA for traces of contamination from the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment. Although the DEP says that their sampling, combined with that of an independent contractor found no evidence of water or soil contamination earlier this year, water resources in Beaver and Lawrence Counties will continue to be monitored for ten years.

PECO customers could face double-digit electricity bill increases next year
Home electricity bills in Philadelphia and the region are poised to climb significantly next year, and go up again the year after that as well. PECO wants to hike its charges for delivering power to homes and businesses by 12.3% in January. That would amount to $16.67 a month more — or $200 a year — for the typical residential customer bill, and would be followed by another increase of $2.07 per month in 2026.

Bloomsburg man dies in mowing accident
Bloomsburg, Pa. — A Bloomsburg man died Wednesday morning after a commercial lawn mower he was operating overturned on him. Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn says Corey Harner, 42, was operating a commercial zero-turn lawn mower on a slope in West Hemlock Township when it slid off the slope and overturned on him. The safety roll bar was not in the correct position for safety at the time of the incident, Lynn added. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the 911 call was placed at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28. Harner was pronounced dead at the scene. Harner was employed by Unger's Lawn Service of Bloomsburg at the time of the incident, according to the coroner's release. Fire departments from Washingtonville, Valley Township, Geisinger EMS, and Milton PSP assisted at the scene.
