Mahanoy Area School District bans cell phone use during school hours
MAHANOY CITY, Pa, (WOLF) — Mahanoy Area School District has announced for the 2024-2025 school year that the use of cell phones will be prohibited by students during school hours. A bill to limit access to phones in school was officially signed into law last week by Governor Shapiro.

Police seeking Mahanoy City woman on felony drug charges
State police and other law enforcement agencies continue to seek a Mahanoy City woman on drug charges. Ashley Duran, 27, of Mahanoy City, is charged with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, possession of a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing a firearm when not permitted to do so.
Pa. businessman admits not remitting taxes on $615K in cash payments to employees
WILLIAMSPORT — A Lycoming County businessman is facing jail time after admitting he did not pay federal taxes on cash payments he made to employees. J. Michael Barr, 59, of Cogan Station, pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. Middle District Court to a charge of failure to pay over taxes.
