Apple reaches its first-ever union deal with workers at a Maryland store
Apple has reached a tentative collective bargaining contract with the first unionized company store in the country.The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers' Coalition of Organized Retail Employees, which represents the employees at a retail location in Maryland, announced Friday evening that it struck a three-year deal with the company that will increase pay by an average of 10% and offer other benefits to workers.The agreement must be approved by roughly 85 employees at the store, which is located in the Baltimore suburb of Towson. Lower Susquehanna Heritage Area gets state funds
ANNAPOLIS — Lower Susquehanna Heritage Area has received a portion of a $5.19 million award by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority to support four programs. The 87 matching grant awards will go to various projects across Maryland to support economic development and tourism. LSHG was awarded $253,450. One of seven heritage areas in the state, the Darlington-based non profit will assign $100,000 for Fiscal Year 2025 management grants. Another $25,000 will be assigned to award FY25 block grants to eligible non profits along the Susquehanna River in Cecil and Harford counties. Hamer’s Town Art Center in Havre de Grace received $100,000 though the heritage area, and $28,450 will be spent on roof repairs for the Susquehanna Lock House Museum.

During a recent appearance on WFMD’s “Morning News Express,” Mayor Michael O’Connor said such large projects like these can take a few years. “If it was easy to build a large scale hotel and conference center in downtown Frederick, I think somebody would have pulled the trigger and done it. But it requires these partnerships of public and private entities coming together.” he said.
Authorities search Gaithersburg ponds for missing autistic child
Montgomery County police and fire and rescue service crews were searching the ponds at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg on Saturday evening for a missing 6-year-old boy. Fawzan Hassan, who is autistic and non-verbal, was last seen at the park at 506 S. Frederick Ave. at about 3 p.m., according to police.
