Last-Minute Labor Day Travel Hacks: Save Big on Flights, Hotels, and Adventures
23 days ago
As the last hurrah of summer approaches, I notice that I keep daydreaming about a quick Labor Day adventure. But let's be real – planning a last-minute trip can be daunting, especially with soaring prices and packed hotels. After years of trial and error (and more than a few travel faux pas), I've discovered some game-changing ways to make the upcoming holiday travel smoother and more affordable.
Scoring Flights Without Breaking the Bank Remember when you had to spend hours comparing flight prices across a dozen tabs? Those days are finally gone. Now, you can use an app called Going (you might know it as Scott's Cheap Flights). It's free and sends personalized alerts about incredible deals – often mistake fares or flash sales that disappear in the blink of an eye. There's also a paid premium version that gives you more deals and options. Could be worth looking into.
The Secret to "Sold Out" Hotels Now, imagine this, you've finally decided on a destination, only to find every hotel supposedly booked solid. Frustrating, right? That's where a brand-new app for your iPhone or Android called Roomer comes in handy. I've just started using them and have created content that can be found on their user-friendly app. It's essentially a marketplace for hotel reservations. There are some incredible last-minute deals on the app, often at luxe hotels normally considered way out of my budget.
Also, a little shameless plug, If you use my code "DGYH" at check-out you get a little bit off the booking.
Hope that helps!
Comparing Apples to Oranges (and Everything in Between) When it comes to flights, Skyscanner is definitely a go-to for bookings. Not only does it include major airlines, but it also scours budget carriers and regional options travelers might otherwise overlook. Their "Everywhere" search is a game-changer for flexible travelers.
Building the Perfect Itinerary Once you've nailed down transportation and lodging, a good place to turn to is the tried-and-true Expedia – but not just for bookings. Their "Things to Do" section is a user-friendly option for discovering local tours and attractions. I enjoy the option of being able to pre-book activities, knowing that I've snagged a good deal and won't be scrambling for last-minute plans.
Navigating Like a Local Google Maps might seem obvious, but it's evolved into so much more than just a navigation tool. The search feature has led me to hidden gem restaurants, lounges, cafes and quirky shops I never would have found otherwise during my trips to various hotspots. It's like having a local in every city, pointing out the coolest spots.
While these tools have revolutionized travel planning, the most valuable lesson I've learned is to allow flexibility into your schedule. Sometimes, the best memories come from unexpected detours or choosing a less-traveled path. This Labor Day, consider swapping the crowded beach for a serene state park or trading a bustling metropolis for a charming small town.
Remember, the joy of travel isn't just about the destination – it's about the experiences we collect along the way. With a bit of tech-savvy planning and an open mind, your Labor Day weekend could become the getaway you've been dreaming of all summer.
