    Suspect in custody after woman injured in stabbing Monday in Shawnee

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is in custody and one person is injured following a stabbing Monday evening in Shawnee, Kansas.

    Shawnee police officers responded just before 3:40 p.m. in the area of W. 57th Street and Nieman Road for an aggravated battery incident.

    When officers arrived on scene they discovered a woman had been stabbed. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is reported to have non-life threatening injuries.

    Police said initially, the suspect refused to come out of an apartment in the area. Just after 6 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

    No other injuries reported, according to police.

    Police said the suspect and victim are known to each other.

    The suspect is not being named until formal charges have been filed with the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.
