Habitat dedicates 51st home in Sheboygan

Habitat for Humanity Lakeside dedicated a new home on Oakland Avenue in Sheboygan to the Hernandez-Perez Family June 5. The occasion marked the organization’s 51st home dedication.

Community members, volunteers and supporters gathered at the newly completed Habitat home to celebrate the family’s transition to homeownership.

The Hernandez family is formed by mother Adriana and daughter Demi. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is Habitat’s second ADA-accommodated home. Adriana needed to find a housing solution for her daughter that would make it easier to complete day-to-day tasks and find a home that would provide the appropriate support at any stage of Demi’s life. The house was able to be built to support those needs. Habitat built wilder hallways, a curbless shower, therapy room, extra storage closet, garage, and grab bars throughout.

Adriana completed 263 “sweat equity” hours to build their home and will receive a zero-percent interest mortgage while paying back her loan. At the dedication, Adriana spoke of hope and resilience.

Habitat programs provide the foundation from which homebuyers build family stability and self-reliance. To learn more about its home buyer program, go to habitatlakeside.com.
