Man arrested in connection to fatal stabbing after standoff with police

The Sheboygan Police Department issued an alert for neighbors to shelter in place in a south-side neighborhood on Friday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday evening, Sheboygan police say they received reports of a 33-year-old man who had been stabbed.

Police say that the man had been stabbed by his 34-year-old roommate.

The victim was initially assisted by neighbors then taken to a local hospital by emergency responders.

The victim did not survive despite lifesaving efforts.

The Sheboygan Police Department's Emergency Response Team was activated in an effort to take the 34-year-old into custody.

Police say they attempted to communicate with the 34-year-old man, who remained in the house where the stabbing occurred, for several hours with no response.

A vehicle-mounted ram was used by officers to enter the home. The 34-year-old man was taken into custody after several minutes of officer's continued effort to communicate with him.

The Sheboygan County District Attorney's Office will issue charges.

The Sheboygan Police Department will continue to investigate the incident but says there is no continued risk to the public.
