City should promote homeownership
Studies can be very beneficial, but they can also be steered to promote whatever idea the author has.
The housing study may be one of those. I’m very concerned about the number of rental units being constructed. The below-market rates will last for a while, but then what? Who will be able to afford apartments at the market rate?
It’s been proven over time that getting people into home ownership is the best way to get them to be involved citizens. The city should be using HUD grants to get people into homes they can start out in and be proud property owners.

Tobacco compliance checks show need for continued vigilance
I am writing to bring attention to the recent WI-WINS tobacco compliance checks conducted in Sheboygan County. These checks are crucial for ensuring that retailers are not selling tobacco products to minors.
Out of 78 inspections carried out across the county, there were a total of four sales to minors. Two of these sales occurred in the county area, while the other two took place within the city of Sheboygan.
It’s important to note that federal law prohibits the sale of tobacco products to anyone younger than 21 years of age. This regulation, implemented in December 2019, aims to reduce youth access to tobacco and nicotine products nationwide.
While it’s encouraging that the majority of retailers are complying with the law, even a single sale to a minor is one too many. These results highlight the ongoing need for vigilance in preventing youth access to tobacco products.
I urge Sheboygan and Sheboygan County to continue supporting efforts to reduce underage tobacco use and to commend the retailers who consistently check IDs and refuse sales to those younger than 21.
