SHEBOYGAN - Sheboygan County Planning & Conservation Department is inviting nature-lovers to Snapshot Day, a search for aquatic invasive species from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Maywood Environmental Park, 3615 Mueller Road, Sheboygan.

Snapshot Day is a statewide effort to protect Wisconsin’s streams, lakes and wetlands by monitoring designated sites for invasive plants and animals that may threaten the state’s wildlife and water ecosystems.

This year is Snapshot Day’s 11th anniversary. Information collected during the event provides the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources with data to help tailor its response efforts for each site.

During the event, volunteers will search for invasive species at critical monitoring sites. Any potential invasive species will be verified and cataloged with the DNR.

Participation requires no prior experience and training is provided. Advance registration is requested to help site leaders build monitoring plans and it will remain open until Aug. 9. Register and see all event details at https://wateractionvolunteers.org/event-page/aquatic-invasive-species-snapshot-day-2024/.

The event is free and open to volunteers of all ages, although it is recommended for ages 8 and older. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
