Drier & cooler after Monday’s storms
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Temperatures and dew points will continue to drop over the next several days. We’re experiencing a mix of sun and clouds today, with occasional patches of thicker cloud cover through the afternoon and evening. Temperatures have warmed steadily but not as rapidly as the past few days. Instead, we’ll wind up with highs just a hair below normal for mid-July in the upper 70s to low 80s. A light northwesterly wind will be present, with intermittent clouds and sun.
Decorah puller Van Duyn shares the challenge and excitement of tractor pulls
Tractor pulls always pack the stands at county fairs, and Decorah puller Don Van Duyn has been “pulling” for the last 27 years. Van Duyn, owner of SEE Electric of Decorah, said he first became interested in tractor pulls in 1993, and four years later, he bought his first pulling tractor –a Schreier’s John Deere Model 4010 – from a man in Wisconsin. Van Duyn named the machine “Birch Hollow Deer” because of all the deer which live around his home, and his new purchase went through an extensive rebuild.
E’Burg Schools Buy Land for New Elementary Building
–The Emmetsburg School Board recently approved purchasing approximately 24-acres of land that could be used as the site of a new elementary school. The undeveloped property sits east of Iowa Lakes Community College and south of College Drive in Emmetsburg. Superintendent Cory Jenness tells KLGA News that a recent review of the district’s facilities revealed that maintaining the West Elementary building for years to come would require a substantial investment.

Iowa weather: Cooler days ahead in Des Moines forecast
DES MOINES, Iowa — Afterthe very strong storms yesterday, we are cooling and calming down. After surveying the damage, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in the Des Moines metro. It formed in Urbandale and traveled about seven miles before lifting near Des Moines Water Works. Wind speeds were estimated at 105 mph.
