Meghan Markle recently adorned the same gold, shimmering butterfly earrings that her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana , memorably wore in 1986. During the second day of her four-day visit to Colombia with her husband , Prince Harry , the Duchess of Sussex, 43, chose to wear the gold stud earrings. The Suits alum, in a touching tribute, showcased these sentimental pieces at Colegio La Giralda school in Bogotá’s Santa Fe neighborhood.

The mom of two ( who shares son Archie , 5, and daughter Lilibet , 3, with Harry, 39) connected with a kindergarten class in Spanish, toured the facilities, and took part in an art activity. Princess Diana, who we lost too soon in a 1997 car accident in Paris at the age of 36, originally wore the butterfly earrings during a May 1986 trip to Canada with her husband (then Prince now King) Charles when the Duke of Sussex was just a toddler.

Meghan Markle Honors Princess Diana With Her Gold Shimmering Butterfly Stud Earrings In Colombia

Markle’s decision to wear these earrings to a school visit held particular significance , as Diana had worked as a kindergarten teacher in London before her royal life.

As for the rest of her ensemble, the Archetypes podcast host donned a white button-down blouse paired with slim black trousers, complemented by a beige coat and matching flats. Her hair was styled in a slicked-back, low bun , optimizing the visibility and impact of her earrings.

Markle has showcased fluency in Spanish dating back to her days before joining the royal family, particularly during her tenure at the US embassy in Buenos Aires. However, it wasn't until last weekend, while touring Colombia with Harry, that her linguistic talents were truly put on display for the public.

On August 18th, at a panel in Cali, Colombia’s third-largest city, Markle captivated the audience with an inspiring speech in Spanish, dedicated to empowering the nation's Afro-Caribbean women.

“Because we are in your country my husband and I can feel this embrace from Colombia—it’s incredible,” Markle said. “The culture, the history—all of it was a dream— this trip was a dream. I can feel this community and this is the feeling that is the best thing right now.”

Later in the day, she took on the role of translator for Harry, facilitating conversations with attendees at the Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival.
