If you’ve taken a scroll through BeautyTok and Reddit recently, you may have stumbled upon videos of makeup artists using delicate shades of lavender, violet and other purple hues. These trendy colors are currently captivating both makeup enthusiasts over 40 and pro MUAs.

As opposed to usual rosy, reddish and pink blushes, purple blush is becoming more popular among mature beauties who want to infuse a fresh burst of color while drawing attention away from fine lines and wrinkles. Though many of us might find purple blush to be a daring and unconventional choice, it can be unexpectedly “flattering on all skin tones,” according to Woman’s World.

To explore the allure of purple blush, we spoke with expert MUAs who offered their expertise on its adaptability, application techniques, and the top products for making sagging skin less noticeable . Their insights reveal how to attain a more radiant and lively complexion.

How Purple Blush Can Unexpectedly Flatter Mature Skin

Speaking with Woman’s World , Steve Kassajikian, Urban Decay’s Global Makeup Artist, revealed that purple blush is a “versatile shade that’s complimentary to all skin tones, especially if you have more yellow or warm undertones.” He also noted that purple “adds light and brightness to the face while giving a youthful appearance to the skin.” The expert pointed out that it’s “flattering” for mature skin since it can make your complexion look much more “glowy and fresh.”

Celebrity makeup artist Monika Blunder also dished to the publication that purple blush “has a way of counteracting any sallowness in the skin by neutralizing any yellow in the skin.” She explained that the cool hues of purple can neutralize redness, achieving a more even complexion while imparting a youthful glow and a revitalized look. “It mimics some of the purple undertones that tend to get more predominant as you age and your skin thins, so it can look very natural and cohesive on older faces,” she went on.

Techniques For Applying Purple Blush Over 40

Celebrity makeup artist Margina Dennis sat down with SheFinds and noted that the best kind of blush for aging, wrinkled or textured skin, whether it be purple-colored or not, is one with a "cream or liquid formula" that does not have an "added shimmer" or glittery element in it.

Powder and shimmer formulas, she stressed, can "draw more attention to texture and wrinkles ." She explained: "I would also shy away from the creme to powder formulas because these can sometimes highlight texture in the skin."

To give the illusion of lifting the face, she recommends "blending up and back, towards the ears on your cheekbones."

Fellow pro makeup artist Mandie Brice agrees, and told SheFinds that a liquid or cream blush will "glide onto skin much more easily," as opposed to a powdery one.

"Powder makeup can dry the skin and make texture or wrinkles stand out a bit more," she echoed. "Cream tends to be a little easier to blend and work with for beginners than liquid."

    The Bottom Line

"The reason I recommend to use one that doesn't have shimmer or sparkle is because often that exacerbates the look of wrinkles as well," she continued.

Overall, the fall season is the perfect time to experiment with makeup, and with these tricks up your sleeve, mastering your blush blending couldn't be easier!
