Prince George & Prince William Wore Matching Expressions of Delight & Desperation at Recent Public Outing

Prince William and Prince George often look rather stoic or subdued or plain ol’ regal. But over the weekend, the father and son took off their royal masks and unbuttoned their metaphorical ties (although their real ones were still pristine), and gave us a look at their wide range of emotions.

Adorably enough —their facial expressions often matched! The future monarch and his 10-year-old son UEFA European Championship this weekend to cheer on England’s soccer team. And cheering wasn’t the only thing they did in sync.

They also clapped along together. Watched in horror together. And looked utterly defeated together when Spain ultimately beat England 2-1. Unfortunately for the soccer (or should we say “football”) buffs, England did not come out on top this time. What they can feel thankful for, though, is that they have this beloved sport to bond over (even if that bonding sometimes looks like crying).

In April, Prince William revealed that Prince George had joined another dynasty. The young royal is not just the third in line to the throne. He is also a member of “the pride” — AKA the truly loyal fans of Aston Villa. “He’s loving it,” Prince William said at the time.

Sadly, Prince George’s little siblings Princess Charlotte, 9 and Prince Louis, 6 did not get to go to the match, but they did apparently watch it. Prince William and Kate Middleton posted a photo on Instagram of their two younger kids sitting side-by-side watching the TV. The photo — which was taken from behind — shows they each wore a personalized England jersey.

“[England], your teamwork, grit and determination were an inspiration to all of us, young and old,” the Prince and Princess of Wales captioned their post . “Congratulations to Spain. W & C”

William and George weren’t the only royals who got to enjoy a sporting event IRL this weekend. While they cheered on England in suits and ties, Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte attended Wimbledon in dresses and shades. And while royal onlookers are always happy to see a cheery moment between Middleton — especially given her uncertain health — and her daughter, they were especially taken by Princess Charlotte’s dress.

Many are convinced that the 9-year-old’s choice was a sweet and subtle way to honor her mom . She wore a navy polka-dot dress, and the color and pattern have been a known favorite of Middleton’s.

As you’ve probably picked up, Prince Louis wasn’t brought to either event. Perhaps it was because of his age or his antics, but we seriously hope to see our favorite wild card in the stands very soon.
