A year has almost passed since Sandra Bullock lost her life partner, Bryan Randall, on Aug. 5, 2023, to the effects of ALS. She took the year off to grieve and take care of her two children, Louis, 14, and Layla, 11 as her A-list friends surrounded her with love and support. Now, two years after she took her break from Hollywood, the 60-year-old actress is reportedly ready to return to work.

Fans should get ready to see a lot of Bullock because she’s aiming for a big-screen comeback. “Sandra’s gradually reemerging into public life,” an Us Weekly source shared. “She’s excited about what the future holds,” the source adds. “She’s ready to get back in the game.” First up is a sequel to her 1998 hit, Practical Magic , with Nicole Kidman which is the perfect project because the insider added, “Sandra missed acting.” She’s also looking to work with other familiar faces from her movie history, including Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Grant. The comfort of having friends surround her at work is also a big part of her return. “Sandra values working with longtime friends in the industry,” they added.

Bullock and Reeves made a rare appearance together for the 30th anniversary of Speed on the 50 MPH podcast in May where they discussed their “electric” onscreen connection . “We liked hanging out. We just liked each other,” she revealed. “I felt very comfortable with Keanu. You just go, ‘OK, there’s my partner.’” They both agreed that they needed to find another project — and Reeves sounded like he wanted it to happen soon. “It does feel like there is a siren call to it like there’s something that wasn’t done,” he said. “I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”

The Birdbox star isn’t just throwing herself into work because she took the year off to honor the man who was “a great storyteller and a good listener,” per a Closer Weekly source. Randall was the love of her life and “ she’s not ready ” to get back out there and date. “Romance will have to happen naturally when she’s not looking for it,” they noted. “And whoever it is will have some really big shoes to fill because Bryan checked all the boxes for her.”

In the meantime, getting her Hollywood career on track seems like the perfect way to take a step forward after a sad chapter in her life. “Sandra views turning 60 as a [time] for reflection,” the Us Weekly source summed up. It’s the ideal for self-care and doing whatever makes Bullock feel good.
