Ben Affleck's New Home Purchase Reportedly Took Jennifer Lopez by Surprise

It appears that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of issues in their two-year marriage — from the level of privacy to how they spend their money. One of the biggest points of contention appeared to be what type of home to live in. The duo purchased a massive $61 million Beverly Hills estate in 2023, but it wasn’t exactly the residence Affleck reportedly wanted.

The 51-year-old actor preferred something close to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s home so he could stay actively involved in their three kids’ lives — Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12. And even though he and Lopez could afford a McMansion, he wanted a residence that was more modest in size . That’s why his new $20.5 million Pacific Palisades property is “more his speed.” An Us Weekly source explained, “Ben needed new energy in his life. He’s in a better mindset and is pushing forward.”

While the Oscar winner is thrilled to have a place to rest his head after living in a rental for much of the spring and the summer, his real estate move apparently “caught the singer off guard.” The insider noted that his purchase was “ the final nail in the coffin ” of their marriage. They added, “Ben moving into a new home was the closure of the relationship.” Lopez was hoping for a reconciliation all summer long, believing that they could work things out because love conquers all.

“It’s just depressing that Ben couldn’t find the time or inclination to be there and support Jennifer,” a source told In Touch Weekly of his absence from her 55th birthday party and their second wedding anniversary. “She would have welcomed it .” Again, they were on different pages in their relationship and there seemed to be no middle ground once Affleck made his decision to move on.

It seems that Affleck’s words in Lopez’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told , were ominous about their future, too. “Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,’” Affleck explained. “And then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’ We’re just two people with kind of different approaches trying to learn to compromise.”

It looks like the art of compromise was sadly never reached.
