Joanna Gaines’ Biscuit Recipe Contains This Secret Ingredient That Makes Them a Bit Sweet & a Whole Lot More Delicious

Having a good biscuit recipe in your back pocket is a must, especially if you love cooking and eating Southern food. And Joanna Gaines has a biscuit recipe that will quickly become your go-to. It’s not only easy but it’s also packed with flavor, including a hint of sweetness thanks to a secret ingredient you don’t often find in other biscuit recipes.

“I love these biscuits,” Gaines said in a clip from her show Magnolia Table , which was shared to the Food Network Instagram page. “They have this nice, crispy outer layer and then the texture is perfection.”

And the secret to all of the above? Honey!

These biscuits start as most do — with a couple of cups of all-purpose flour mixed with salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Then, mix in your very cold butter until it’s about pea-sized in the bowl, and add your buttermilk, egg yolk, and a healthy helping of honey to sweeten and moisten.

The dough should start to take form, but it will need some encouragement. “Sometimes with biscuit dough, it comes together quicker if you just use your hands,” Gaines said.

When all the ingredients are melded together, roll your biscuit dough out to be about a half-inch thick, then fold the ends of the dough toward the middle to create those flaky layers. Finally, it’s time to cut the biscuits from the dough using a 2 3/4-inch round cutter.

Let your cut biscuits rest in the fridge while you make your glaze with more buttermilk and egg. Then, before popping your biscuits into the oven, brush them each with that egg wash and then let them do their thing for about 15 to 20 minutes. They should come out of the oven golden brown, crispy, flaky, buttery, and oh-so-delicious.
