Zooey Deschanel Shares Rare Pictures of Her Kids With Jonathan Scott — & It Shows How Fun & Silly Their Relationship Is

For over half their lives, Zooey Deschanel’s kids Elsie, 9, and Charlie, 7, have had Jonathan Scott as a “bonus dad” — and it’s obvious how strong their bond is! The New Girl alum shared rare new photos of her two kids hanging out with her fiancé, and they seem so silly and cute together.

The Harold & The Purple Crayon star posted several photos to commemorate her first date with the Property Brothers co-host. “5 years ago today I was lucky enough to go on a first date with this total dreamboat person. Here we are and he’s still making me smile every day. 😍” she wrote on Instagram . Scott replied, “Glad I was able to woo you with my carpool karaoke charm 😍 You’re the dreamiest @zooeydeschanel !”

Aww! Before you melt into a pile of mush, just wait until you see the pictures! In one, they are at a restaurant together. Scott sits with his arm around Elsie, making a funny face for the camera, while Charlie is turned in his chair to look at Scott. In another picture, the kids climb up on Scott’s lap, with Charlie squeezing his lips together in a silly way and Elsie reaching out to tickle his neck. They are absolutely adorable together!

Deschanel, who shares her kids with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik, has been open about Scott’s role in her kids’ lives. In a Nov. 2022 interview with PEOPLE, she gushed that Scott is “an amazing stepdad.”

He replied, “I’m a magician, or I’m a clown, I could build stuff.” “He’s really very highly qualified for the job,” she quipped.

In a Father’s Day 2023 interview on his website, the Backed by the Bros star opened up about meeting Elsie and Charlie when they were just 4 and 2. “The little one, Charlie, doesn’t actually remember a time before me,” he said. “The big thing for me was them wondering, ‘Who is this giant guy who’s all of a sudden showing up around us?’”

“Something that was really a struggle was what they were going to call me,” Scott continued. “They have their dad and they have a great relationship with him, so he’s Daddy. I couldn’t say papa because that’s what they call their grandpa (though at one point we tried to change the narrative and get them to call me papa instead, but they weren’t having it).”

Now they call him “My Jonathan,” which is the cutest thing ever. Being a step-parent isn’t easy, but Scott makes it look extremely fun — and there’s nothing better.
