The Pioneer Woman Calls Her Newest Sweet Treat a 'Throwback' to her 'Childhood'

Why do the snacks we had as kids still taste the best today? It must be a combination of the sweet nostalgia that overwhelms our senses when we bite into a Rice Krispies treat or a milky spoonful of Cocoa Pebbles. Growing up in the ‘90s, some of my go-to treats were my mom ’s favorites when she was a kid: Little Debbie snacks! Nutty Buddy bars, Swiss Cake Rolls, Cosmic Brownies — they were all so good. And now you can home make one of their most popular snacks thanks to a new recipe shared by Ree Drummond (aka, The Pioneer Woman). She shared an easy recipe that’s a “throwback” to all of our childhoods, and we can’t wait to introduce it to our kids!

In a video shared to the Food Network YouTube Channel , Drummond shared the recipe for her Oatmeal Cream Pies. “Oh my gosh, these are like a throwback to my childhood,” Drummond says, adding that “they’re really easy to make.”

Start with the oatmeal cookie dough, which requires mixing butter, brown sugar, vanilla bean paste, and other ingredients, then folding in the oats. These are “straightforward oatmeal cookies,” which makes this super simple.

From there, she scoops 36 balls of dough onto the baking sheets and pops them in the oven. Once they are completely cool, Drummond makes a vanilla cream filling using powdered sugar, vanilla bean paste, and other ingredients for a fluffy mixture. She then scoops about a teaspoon-sized portion on a cookie and squishes it with another cookie on top. “Cutest thing in the world — just like the ones we had when we were kids!” Drummond says.

This recipe makes 18 delicious oatmeal cream pies, perfect for serving at football watching parties or any other events. “Just like the original, but even better!” Drummond praises. Yum!
