The season is being dubbed Joan’s “second, second chance” after her journey on Gerry Turner’s The Golden Bachelor was cut short when she had to exit the show early to be with her daughter after she gave birth.

Joan is a 61-year-old private school administrator who is looking for love after losing her husband, John, to pancreatic cancer in 2021. She’s a mom of four with one grandchild and, according to her ABC bio , she describes herself as “a loving mother and a hard worker who would love to find someone with whom to enjoy life.” So, who is the lucky man many fans are already hoping Joan ends up with?

Who is Guy Gansert?

The Golden Bachelorette contestant Guy Gansert is a 66-year-old emergency room doctor living in Reno, Nevada. He has four kids and one grandchild — which is exactly the same as Joan’s family!

Guy’s ex-wife is Nevada politician Heidi Gansert, a Republican who has been serving in the Nevada Senate since 2016. She announced in 2023 that she would not run for reelection and is retiring to spend more time with their four kids.

It is unclear when they divorced but a 2017 profile on Heidi in the Nevada Independent revealed they had been married for over 30 years.

According to his ABC bio , Guy has “dedicated nearly 40 years to helping others as a doctor, and he is excited about the opportunity to meet someone to share the rest of his life with.” He is described as “charismatic, confident and romantic” and wants to find love with a woman who is “intelligent and funny.”

“Guy does NOT fit the ‘grumpy old man’ stereotype and knows he has a lot of life left to live,” his bio reads. “He is a big believer in chivalry and wants to make Joan feel extra special.”

In his bio, his fun facts include that he plans to hike Mount Kilimanjaro this fall, he’s a huge fan of The Beatles and he dreams about the Dallas Cowboys winning a Super Bowl — per his Facebook page, Guy is originally from Arlington, Texas.
