Kate Middleton is officially back on the job, but it’s probably best described right now as a part-time return. Even though the Princess of Wales proudly announced that she’s completed her chemotherapy via a cinematic video , she is going to take it easy for the next six months for a very royal reason.

“It will be a slow adjustment to getting back on duty and we mustn’t expect anything mammoth overnight,” royal expert Dickie Arbiter told the Express . “We shouldn’t be pushing her, and she certainly shouldn’t be pushing herself to keep people happy that she is coming back, she will do it gradually and in her time … She’s not out of the woods yet and we must allow her to pace herself.” While her health is still certainly a priority after her cancer battle this year, the palace isn’t nudging her to take a full-time schedule just yet either.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams added, “It’s extremely important for the future of the monarchy that she adopts a gradual approach and does what she feels able to do, subject of course to medical advice.” With King Charles III still battling cancer and the ranks of the royal family looking rather thin , Kate’s long-term good health is important to the palace. The expected events that she will attend in the coming months appear to be Remembrance Sunday on Nov. 10, her annual Together at Christmas carol service in early December, and the royal family’s walkabout on Christmas Day.

The Telegraph believes that her continued plan is about “ under-promising and over-delivering ” by offering “a powerful emotional message, a surprise photograph, and a full-scale outing to come that no one would have expected her to manage.” The outlet noted in June that this “will be the pattern in the months to come” as each major event will be looked at on a case-by-case basis to consider her health journey.

Royal sources claim that the “six-month mark is a likely timescale of when the public can expect to see Kate attending more day-to-day engagements,” per the Express . So, March 2025 might be the first fans will see of Kate’s full-time royal return after a cancer battle she described as “complex, scary, and unpredictable.” The Princess of Wales knows that her royal role is always waiting for her, but her good health is the most important factor ahead.
