Cox and actor Michael Keaton dated from 1990 until 1995, and they were a Hollywood power couple, even though they kept most of their romance off the paparazzi radar . “It’s the most important relationship I’ve ever had, and I think he’s the most wonderful person I’ve ever met,” she told People in 1995 after their split. “We still love each other.” While they never gave a reason for why it didn’t work out, Cox offered the vague statement, “Nothing about our relationship was ever simple.”

With three decades behind them, Cox is now in a happy relationship with musician Johnny McDaid, and Keaton is blissfully dating Marni Turner. But, a source still thinks there’s nostalgic love between them, or at least on the Batman Returns star’s end. “Michael and Courteney’s romance is notable for two reasons,” an In Touch Weekly source explained. “One, they were extremely happy and close for a long time 30 years ago — just one of the happiest couples you could possibly run into and spend time around.”

The insider believes that the 60-year-old actress is “always the one who got away” for the 73-year-old Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star. Keaton never spoke publicly about their relationship, so it’s hard to get his side of the story, but they did have a fan who was rooting them on: Cox’s mom, Courteney Copeland. “They were always trying to work on themselves,” Copeland told People in 1995. “They need to forget that and accept each other the way they are — and just get married.”

That walk down the aisle never happened as Cox went on to marry and divorce actor David Arquette. They share a daughter, Coco, 20. Her on-again, off-again relationship with McDaid has been going on since 2013. Keaton has been dating Turner since 2016 after a chance encounter on a street in Los Angeles. Keaton and Cox will go down as a part of Hollywood dating history because it looks like their romantic paths won’t cross again.
