Reese Witherspoon Is Doing Business With This 'Real Housewives' Reality Star After a Chance Encounter

At the Primetime Emmys on Sept. 15, Reese Witherspoon teased fans on the red carpet with a Real Housewives comment that no one saw coming. She admitted that she wasn’t Bravo’s target audience with The Real Housewives franchise, but she was working on a secret project with one well-known reality star.

Of course, Witherspoon knew how to tease a headline, and she didn’t name the person she was partnering up with. “I did sit next to a Real Housewife on a flight recently,” she said on the Live From E!: Emmys broadcast, via Page Six . “Well, we might have a Hello Sunshine project cooking now, but I can’t say. It was cool, it was really cool.” As for her lack of interest in Bravo’s gossipy franchise , she added, “I’ve never watched it, and I feel like I can’t catch up.”

It took a little over a week for the unnamed reality star to reveal her. It’s Kyle Richards. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member shared the news on her Amazon Live show on Tuesday, Sept. 24. “Yes, I was, and yes, that was me that she was referring to,” Richards told her fans during the broadcast. “In case you guys didn’t see, Reese Witherspoon said something at the Emmys about being on a flight with a Real Housewife and working with her on something. So yes, that was me.”

Richards was the first guess for many Bravo TV fans because the actress-turned-reality-star has produced the Paramount Network series, American Woman , which was featured during a Real Housewives season. The series was loosely based on her late mother, Kathleen Richards, but the show resulted in a feud with her older sisters Kathy Hilton and Kim Richards.

“[My relationship with Kathy] is not great,” Richards revealed on the Season 8 reunion of the Bravo show, via Us Weekly. “I told her all the time, I said, ‘I’m not sharing your stories or Kim‘s — these are my own stories.’ And not only that, it’s a fictionalized version of our life, and our mom being a single mom in the ’70s is the jumping-off point.” The sisters have since reconciled, but Witherspoon might want to watch an episode or two before really diving into her project with Richards — the reality star might bring a lot of drama to her life. And maybe Witherspoon should get her Real Housewives tagline ready… just in case.
