Like many other musicians out there, fans can usually get a taste of what their personal life is like from their song lyrics. After all, we weren’t the only ones dissecting Taylor Swift’s latest album to understand which song was referring to which ex. So, of course, fans of Shakira could barely wait for the singer’s new songs to come out after her shocking split from her ex, Gerard Piqué .

And in her latest song, titled “Soltera,” Shakira gave fans exactly that. Through her lyrics, she shared a not-so-subtle glimpse at what her single life is like.

In the chorus, Shakira sings about finally finding freedom. “I have the right to be bad / In order to have a good time / I’m free now, and I can do whatever I want / Being single is great,” she sings, per Genius .

In one of the verses, she talks about dating again, and the mindset in which she approached it. “There are many who hit on me / But few who give it to me / I’m selective,” she sings. “For obvious reasons, I delevoped a phobia to love.”

As a reminder, Shakira and the former soccer player, who share sons Milan and Sasha, were together for over 11 years before their split in 2022. The pair reportedly broke up because of Piqué’s romance with 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti.

Most recently, Shakira was linked to Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount .

Of course, this isn’t the first time Shakira’s shaded her ex in a song . In 2023, she went viral for her song “BZRP Music Sessions #53” with DJ Bizarre for going after her ex. “You left me the in-laws as my neighbors / Media outlets at my door and in debt with the Treasury,” she sang. “You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger/ Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in .”

Then, in March, she released her first album in seven years, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (“Women Don’t Cry Anymore”).

Looks like Shakira went from making herself stronger after a breakup to fully embracing single life. We’re so happy for her!
