Kate Winslet’s Rare Outing With Her Husband for the First Time in Over a Year Was Full of Smiles

It’s not surprising to see Kate Winslet on the red carpet during award show season or promoting her latest project, but it is rare to see her with her husband Edward Abel Smith. The couple, who has been married for 12 years, made a glamorous appearance on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in New York City.

The 48-year-old actress is busy spreading the word about her movie, Lee , but it isn’t stopping her from spending quality time with Smith. The good-looking duo coordinated their fashion looks for their night on the town with all-black ensembles . Winslet sported a Jenny Peckham outfit with black silk pants and a black beaded blouse that shimmered in every direction. Smith looked stylish with his black tuxedo jacket adding a dash of splash to his casual black T-shirt and pants. And they enjoyed a little PDA by holding hands as they exited the restaurant.

The last time Winslet was spotted in public was at the BAFTA TV Awards in May 2023. They were celebrating her double win at the ceremony for Best Actress and Best Drama for I Am Ruth . Winslet, Smith, and daughter Mia Threapleton, 23, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton, were seen in a joyous mood as they held her awards and drank champagne for a family selfie .

In late August, Winslet gushed about her husband to The Telegraph and how she knew he was the one for her. “It was very clear to me that this was the person I was supposed to follow through life. And I still feel exactly that way now,” she explained. “[Ned] looks after everybody. He’s wonderful. We literally do life together, we really do. He’s always jumped from project to project, and when I met him, he was setting up a music festival.”

Together, they are “real-life optimists,” which is a quality that bonds them together. “When you live with someone who wakes up, opens the curtains, and says, ‘Hello, the world!’ you just think, yes, I am going to sign up for life,” Winslet added. How cute is that?

In addition to Mia, Winslet is also the proud mom of son Joe, 20, who she shares with her second husband , Sam Mendes. Winslet and Smith had son Bear, 10, in December 2013 — it’s a blended modern family!
