George Clooney Reveals the Uncomfortable Question His 7-Year-Old Twins Asked: ‘We Didn’t Want to Explain’

Even George Clooney can’t help getting flustered by his kids sometimes. He revealed the uncomfortable question his 7-year-old twins Ella and Alexander recently asked him and wife Amal Clooney that caused them to freeze up, and it’s completely understandable.

In an interview with E! News at the couple’s Albies event this month, the Wolfs star shared that the kids “know what a lawyer [like their mom] is,” but aren’t quite as sure what their dad does. “I don’t want them to for the most part,” he said, adding that they asked him something he didn’t know how to answer.

“But they did say to me one day when they came home from school,” George recalled. The question: “What’s ‘famous?’” “Which we didn’t want to explain,” George added. Oof, that’s a tough one! Especially if you are the most famous movie star of all time!

In the interview, Amal added, “They know you’re an actor. I think. They find it intriguing.” But even knowing that their dad acts doesn’t quite explain how recognizable his face is around the world. Even when George tried to explain one of his roles (Batman in the 1997 Batman & Robin ), the Ocean’s 11 actor said, “My son dressed up as Batman not long ago. And he said, ‘I’m Batman.’ I told him I was Batman. He goes, ‘Not really.’”

“And I was like, ‘You have no idea how accurate you are,’” he quipped.

It’s probably even more difficult to figure out how famous your dad is when he acts so normal at home. In the interview, George explained how he and Amal are just normal parents. “We get to drive the kids to school in the morning and all that kind of stuff,” he said. “So it’s fun.”

Last month, George told GQ how he and Amal work their hardest to protect their twins’ privacy. “So I have a goal of trying to protect, I don’t want pictures of my kids,” he said. “We deal in very serious subject matters, with very serious bad guys, and we don’t want to have photos of our kids out there. So we have to work hard at trying to stay private, and it’s tricky, as you can imagine.”

One day his kids will understand. But for now, they will just think of George as their overprotective dad who picks them up from school and pretends to be Batman, and honestly, that is so beautiful.
