Fame, fashion, and film premieres fill Amanda Seyfried’s public life, but her private life is a lot less glamorous… and even more work. She spends her days on her own farm in upstate New York, where she lives with husband Thomas Sadoski and their kids Nina, born in 2017, and Thomas, born in 2020. In a new interview with SheKnows, the Mank star shared the sweet way her 4-year-old son loves to help her take care of the animals, and it’s adorable.

“Both my daughter and my son love to help me when they’re in the mood,” Seyfried told SheKnows’ Entertainment Editor Alice Kelly. “In the morning, on the weekends, my son will be like, ‘Can I come out and feed the animals with you?’ And I’ll be like, ‘Yes.’ He’s four but he’s very helpful.”

How sweet is that? My mornings are usually a chaotic blend of brushing teeth and finding lost shoes and making sure lunches are packed with my three little kids, but going out to feed animals in the morning sounds idyllic. It’s totally understandable why she created this private retreat for her family!

Her 7-year-old daughter occasionally helps too. “And the same with my daughter, if she feels like going, she’ll be really helpful,” the Mean Girls star told us. “And it’s so great because we’re teaching them how to take care of these animals.”

They also have a family dog, a 15-year-old named Finn, who partly inspired her move to the farm. “Finn started the whole thing,” Seyfried told SheKnows about starting a farm with rescue animals including peacocks and donkeys. “The grounding energy he has, and the way he made me feel [about] the weight that I have in my life. The farm just is tenfold. It’s amazing. There’s so much peace that comes in from mother nature in general. It really is why I feel sane.”

Her kids love spending time with Finn too. Seyfried explained, “Whenever we go out and the town, my son likes to hold Finn’s leash, and it’s just really, it’s amazing to watch them, you know, embrace everybody.” Although like all preschoolers, things can still get a little crazy at home. “Even if my son still runs after the chickens. It can’t be helped,” she added. It truly sounds perfect!

When they aren’t hanging out with the animals or doing chores on the farm, Seyfried’s kids apparently like watching her movies. In an interview with PEOPLE last month, she revealed that her daughter is currently “obsessed” with her 2008 musical Mamma Mia! “My mom showed my daughter, and my daughter is now obsessed, and so she’s 7, so she’s in second grade, and all her friends are obsessed,” Seyfried said. “So now they’re starting to recognize me as Sophie, which is a little weird, but how beautiful. I don’t think she quite understands it, but she loves it. She loves it!”
