Seyfried married fellow actor Sadoski in 2017 after meeting just two years earlier while starring together in an off-Broadway play, The Way We Get By . The duo went on to star in The Last Word together, which was released in 2017. In March 2016, Seyfried and Sadoski got engaged before marrying in a secret ceremony in March of the following year.

Weeks later, on March 24, 2017, Sadoski and Seyfried became parents for the first time when the Mamma Mia actress gave birth to their daughter, Nina. Their son, Thomas, was born on September 28, 2020.

Now, the couple live on a farm in New York with their kids. As Seyfried told SheKnows in October, the farm allows her and Sadoski to find quiet time outside of Hollywood. “There’s so much peace that comes in from mother nature in general,” she said. “It really is why I feel sane.”

Thomas Sadoski is an actor best known for playing Don Keefer in The Newsroom from 2012 until 2014 or Matt Short in sitcom Life in Pieces from 2015 until 2019. He’s also had a lengthy Broadway career including a role in Reasons to Be Pretty , which earned him a Tony nomination in 2009.

Sadoski grew up in Texas

Sadoski was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1978 but was raised in College Station, Texas, where his parents moved when he was 4. After high school, he briefly attended the University of North Texas for one semester before dropping out. “Things didn’t really work out for me, and it didn’t really work out for them, so we had a mutual parting of ways,” he told WWD in 2010 .

After dropping out, Sadoski moved to New York where he trained as an actor at the Circle in the Square Theatre School. His theatre debut was in 1998 when he served as the understudy for Mark Ruffalo and Mark Rosenthal in This Is Our Youth . He made his Broadway debut in 2004 in Reckless .

His longest screen role was in Life in Pieces , which he admitted wasn’t what he originally envisioned for his career. “I want to be doing independent film and theater that pushes the boundaries, things that are honest human experiences,” he told Cinephiled in 2017. “But then somebody said, ‘Hey, have you ever considered doing a half-hour comedy on CBS?’ I never had, but I was getting very sick of hearing things like, ‘Well, the director and writer love you but the studio says you’re not famous enough so we can’t hire you.'”

“I never thought I could do something like this so it was a real challenge,” he added.

Sadoski was married before meeting Seyfried

Sadoski was married to casting director Kimberly Hope from 2007 until 2015, after dating for eight years. Per Us Weekly , they announced their split a few months after Seyfried and Sadoski’s play, The Way We Get By , debuted.

According to Seyfried, they were just friends when they met. “We were both in bad relationships,” she told Porter in 2018. At the time, Seyfried had been dating actor Justin Long from 2013 until September 2015. Seyfried said Sadoski “never flirted, never disrespected his wife. That was another reason why I thought, later on, that I could marry him.”

He started dating Seyfried in 2016

After meeting in 2015, Seyfried and Sadoski reunited the following year to play love interests in comedy film The Last Word , starring Shirley MacLaine , which is when they officially started dating. “It was amazing,” Seyfried told Porter . “It felt healthy and freeing and clean. We can tell the story without any guilt.”

Sadoski has also gushed about easily falling for Seyfried due to her down-to-earth personality. “It’s all the reasons I fell in love with her, too,” Sadoski said of his wife in a 2019 interview with Fatherly . “She’s the real deal, a person of tremendous integrity,” he added. “I don’t know I’ve ever met anyone with more. She is exactly who she says she is.”

People confirmed their engagement in September 2016 after Seyfried was spotted wearing a ring. That November, Seyfried revealed her pregnancy by showing off her bump in a sheer dress at a press launch for Givenchy’s Live Irrésistible fragrance, per E! News .

In March 2017, the couple eloped in California, as Sadoski revealed during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden days later. “We just took off into the country with an officiant and, just the two of us, and we did our thing,” Sadoski said. “It was beautiful. It was everything that it should be. It was just the two of us talking to each other.”

In her interview with Porter , Seyfried revealed that the couple had no wedding reception and, instead, went for brunch near her condo after tying the knot. “We got married in Topanga,” she said, revealing she got her dress from Free People. “Just the two of us. And afterwards, I was like, ‘Can we just go to Cheebo?’ It was awesome.”

She explained that she wanted to be married to Sadoski before she went into labor with their daughter. “I really wanted to have rings on in the hospital,” she explained. “And what if something goes wrong, and he’s not legally my husband?”

Their daughter, Nina, was born in March 2017

On March 24, a week after announcing their marriage, they welcomed a baby girl named Nina after a 24-hour labor as Seyfried revealed on Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast .

Sadoski quickly embraced fatherhood and gushed to Fatherly about his favorite part of being a dad in 2019. “When my daughter discovers something new. That’s the coolest thing in the world,” he said. “That chokes me up every time she does it. The world is not jaded for her. I start to see the world differently too. I’m making time for that.”

On September 28, 2020, the couple expanded their family with the birth of their son who is named after his dad. They announced their son’s birth in a statement to INARA and War Child, two charity organizations that they are board members of.

“Since the birth of our daughter 3 years ago our commitment to the innocent children that are so brutally affected by conflict and war has been a driving force in our lives,” the couple said . “With the birth of our son the work of INARA and War Child has become our North Star.”

While talking to SheKnows in October 2024, Seyfried gushed about being a mom of two and getting help from her little ones while on their family’s farm. “Both my daughter and my son love to help me when they’re in the mood,” Seyfried said. “In the morning, on the weekends, my son will be like, ‘Can I come out and feed the animals with you?’ And I’ll be like, ‘Yes.’ He’s four but he’s very helpful.”

Seyfried and Sadoski live in upstate New York

Per The New York Times , Seyfried purchased a farm in the Catskills in 2013 and moved there with Sadoski full-time after her daughter was born.

On the farm, Seyfried keeps chickens, goats and a range of rescue animals, as she told SheKnows in October. She also revealed that living on the farm allows her and Sadoski to get more privacy for their kids.

“Nobody follows me,” she said. “When I lived in LA, there was a time when there were paparazzi around a lot and that just doesn’t exist upstate. I don’t have to worry about it at all. It doesn’t have to be a one tiny fraction of an of a thought for me.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way and I’m so grateful that they don’t have to worry about that either.”

In July 2023, Seyfried showed off the couple’s Manhattan apartment in an Architectural Digest tour , revealing that they use the pad as a base in the city while she or Sadoski are working on Broadway.

Sadoski and Seyfried balance parenthood with acting

Since becoming parents, the couple have still pursued their respective careers with each other’s support. While working on stage play White Noise , Sadoski told Fatherly that Seyfried and her mother are hands on with caring for their then-2-year-old daughter.

“I have the tremendous fortune of having an incredible wife who is dedicated to helping out in every possible conceivable way,” he said. “Amanda’s mom lives with us as our live-in nanny. We have a multi-generational home. That’s a life saver for everyone involved.”

Seyfried also showed her gratitude to Sadoski when she won an Emmy for her role in The Dropout in 2022. “And last but not least, [thank you to] my family,” the actress said in her acceptance speech. “Thank you to my family, my mom, my husband, my dad and my kids, and my dog, Finn.”

That year, Seyfried also said that being a working parent has made her more selective about her roles.

“Up until a few years ago I was working so much, and I was worried that if I gave myself a break, I wouldn’t be able to get back into it,” she told Grazia . “But now I have a husband who, like me, loves his work and two children that need somebody to be with them. Because of this I only accept roles that I consider impossible to miss out on.”

Sadoski is a devoted activist

In addition to being a board member of the INARA, a non-profit that helps displaced children get medical treatment in areas of conflict, Sadoski is an ambassador for War Child USA and War Child Canada, and works with the non-profits Fortify Rights and Refugees International.

In a 2023 interview with Sharp Magazine , Sadoski opened up about his work with aiding refugees of the war in Yemen, saying, “At a certain point, it’s not a matter of being unaware, it’s a matter of turning your back on a situation. And I refuse, for whatever reason, to allow the globe’s back to be turned to a people who are suffering precisely because of our ignorant involvement in a conflict that has nothing to do with us.”

Sadoski also made headlines in 2018 when he stood behind actress Jessica Walter after she claimed she was “ verbally harassed ” by her Arrested Development co-star Jeffrey Tambor. At the time, Sadoski penned an Instagram post in support of Walter. “It’s unhinged bullshit behavior and it has NEVER been acceptable,” he wrote, in part. “And excusing that kind of behavior is pathetic. Just pathetic.”

Seyfried later revealed that her husband’s support for Walter led him to lose out on a role.

“Here’s a somewhat recent post from my husband who, in return for standing beside a badass woman who’d recently been bullied, recently lost out on a job because of this,” Seyfried wrote on Instagram alongside her husband’s original post. “I’d rather speak up and lose out. Integrity, ladies and gentlemen.”

Though she didn’t name the project, IndieWire reported that Sadoski’s The Newsroom co-star Olivia Munn alluded to the incident in an Instagram post with Sadoski, writing, “Extremely grateful for my friendship with this guy, his conviction, his dedication to standing up for what’s right even if it comes at a cost.”

Sadoski and Seyfried co-starred in ‘The Crowded Room’

In 2023, Seyfried and Sadoski shared the screen once again in Apple TV+ limited series The Crowded Room , which also stars Tom Holland and Emmy Rossum.

“It was actually really nice [having Sadoski on set],” the actress told Page Six at the premiere of the show. “Because it was in the beginning when I was a little insecure. I felt like it was always nice to check in with him and see if I was doing a good job.”

“I wasn’t with her every single day on set,” Sadoski added to Page Six . “So for me, it was fun to show up, and for her, I think it was like a breath of fresh air to have someone away from the really heavy serious stuff she was doing with Tom [Holland] so I think it worked out really well for both of us.”
