Meryl Streep & Martin Short Continue To Tease Fans With Their Rumored Relationship

Younger actors might want to take a page from Meryl Streep and Martin Short’s romantic playbook . Their PR ploy is working because the talented duo still has everyone guessing as to whether they are dating or not — and they look adorable together whether they are friends or something more.

The Only Murders in the Building co-stars were spotted at celebrity hotspot Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica on Wednesday, October. 16. (You can see the photos here .) There was no PDA captured by photographers, but it sure felt like a date given the fact that they both looked sharply dressed. Streep wore a blue-and-white print blouse with slouchy pants and Short sported a plaid suit with a button-down shirt. They even took off in Streep’s car at the end of the evening — were they headed to the same place?

Rumors about their possible romance first began at the 2024 Golden Globes where they looked quite comfortable and loving together. However, the 74-year-old comedian was quick to shut down the gossip by telling Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast, “We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends.”

“Well, you should because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple ,” Maher quipped. “It worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, it worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.” Short might have decided to take the comedian’s advice because he and Streep haven’t shut down the dating chatter lately.

On Aug. 23, it appeared that the co-stars soft-launched their romance at the Season 4 premiere of their Hulu show. Deadline caught them holding hands at the after-party after a cozy appearance on the red carpet — it was a cute night. Short also has been gushing a bit more about Streep in public, telling People in May, “She’s fabulous. There’s no one who doesn’t adore her.” Still, it seems that he loves her the most.

If the romance is real — and we hope it is — it truly is a Hollywood power coupling. Short was married to his wife, Nancy Dolman, until her death from ovarian cancer in August 2010. Streep was married to Don Gummer for 39 years until their secret separation in 2017, but the world didn’t find out about it until 2023, the same year she began working with Short on Only Murders in the Building . Coincidence? Maybe not.
