Steve Martin’s Cryptic Instagram Post Suggests Two Of His ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Co-Stars Are More Than Friends

Leave it to Steve Martin to playfully fan the flames of romance rumors between his costars without actually addressing anything. The Only Murders in the Building star posted a photo of himself alongside two of his other co-stars, Meryl Streep and Martin Short, who have been fueling relationship rumors as on of the year’s most unexpected celebrity couples , following their very cozy appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes, and now this post where Martin all but calls himself a third wheel to them on Instagram.

In Martin’s post, the comedian playfully added a red prohibited emoji over his own face in a magazine article screenshot featuring a photo of himself alongside Streep and Short. When the two shared an intimate meal at Giorgio Bald i in Santa Monica last week, fans were convinced the two were more than friends.

Short himself attempted to dispelled the notion during an appearance on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, saying, “We’re not a couple, are just very close friends, despite the fact that the two were also holding hands at the Season 4 premiere of the Hulu series.

Fans aren’t buying the idea of “just friends,” either, as evidenced by the comments on Martin’s post.

“While Meryl and Martin claim they’re just friends, Steve rats them out 😂,” noted one fan. “If Ms Streep and Martin Short are an item and this is the announcement I will be over the moon!,” added another hopeful fan.

Both stars have experienced significant personal life changes in recent years. Streep, who was married to Don Gummer for almost four decades, announced their separation in 2023. Short lost his wife, Nancy Dolman, to ovarian cancer in 2010.

While the status of Short and Streep’s relationship hasn’t been confirmed by either of the stars, Martin’s cheeky Instagram post has certainly done its part to keep fans guessing and hoping that two of their favorites have found love together.
