“Digging Deep With Denise” is a semi-regular question and answer feature with local racers and racing personalities produced by RaceDayCT’s Denise DuPont. Nathan Wenzel of Granby, Mass. is a regular in the Mad Dog Modified division at Monadnock Speedway. On Saturday, July 20 Wenzel drove the No. 03 Modified hard and captured a series win. Wenzel is currently ranked second in points for the track division.

L.L. Bean in Enfield slated to open this fall
Construction is underway at L.L. Bean at Brookside Plaza in Enfield and the store is expected to open in the fall. It is one of four L.L. Bean stores the company added or plans to add across the country this year. The others are in New York, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
Spirit Shoppe creates action plan after selling alcohol to minor
SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Spirit Shoppe will be reducing their hours across all locations after the Deerfield Police conducted a compliance check at the South Deerfield location. An 18 year old Frontier Regional School student working with the police for the compliance check bought a six pack of beer without having their identification checked. As a result of the violation, the store fired the employee and created an action plan including reducing hours and hiring full-time employees only.
Two held without bail in hate crime case
GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Two men were ordered held without bail after a dangerousness hearing in a hate crime case Monday. On July 16th, Warren Martinez of Northampton and Thomas Patnode of Greenfield are accused of assaulting a Sunderland store’s employee and another individual after the employee refused to sell them alcohol, leaving them with serious injuries.
Fire department pursuing hybrid lane at entrance to Main Street
GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — As the Greenfield fire department settles into their new station, chief Robert Strahan discussed some challenges they are experiencing such as fire engines entering Main Street to get to a fire. Strahan did note that the conditions for entering Main Street are improved over the experience at the former station.
Public input opportunity for state Age and Dementia Action Plan
GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — In preparation for updates to the Massachusetts Age and Dementia Action Plan, LifePath, the Franklin Regional Council of Governments, and the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative will be co-hosting a listening session to collect local feedback for the state on how to be more age and dementia-friendly.
