99 new U.S. citizens: Naturalization ceremony in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH — Strawberry Banke Museum celebrated Independence Day with its time-honored tradition of hosting a U.S. Immigration Service naturalization ceremony Thursday. On the waterfront grounds that have welcomed immigrants for nearly 400 years to a "neighborhood of newcomers," 99 people from 41 countries took the oath of allegiance with District Court Chief Judge Landya B. McCafferty presiding.

Two doctoral candidates partnered to create an underwater turbine to track tidal energy. According to CleanTechnica, University of New Hampshire students Parviz Sedigh and Mason Bichanich had never seen their work implemented underwater. They did it through a partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in addition to funding from the Department of Energy's Water Power Technologies Office.
