Northern Forest Canoe Trail makes improvements to Valcour Island trails
Peru, NY – A multi-year effort to restore camping and paddling infrastructure on Lake Champlain’s historic Valcour Island continued this summer, with stewardship crews rebuilding a boardwalk along a cross-island hiking trail. The work was performed by the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) stewardship crew and community volunteers, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and with support from a Lake Champlain Basin Program grant. The NFCT’s stewardship crew consists of professional staff and three interns.
Remains believed to be those of missing Enosburg woman
Human remains found Sunday in a wooded area in Enosburg are believed to be those of 82-year-old Roberta Martin, who was reported missing last week. The remains were located around 11 a.m. off Sand Hill Road, not far from Martin’s home on Butternut Hollow Road. They will be sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.
