MONTEVALLO – Shelby Emergency Assistance has announced the date for its annual Back to School Parade, which is set to take place on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This drive-thru event is designed to support families and ensure children are prepared for the upcoming school year. It will take place at the SEA office located at 160 Shoshone Drive, Montevallo, 35115.

Shelby County Families wishing to participate are encouraged to register by visiting Shelbyemergencyassistance.org and clicking on “request assistance.” When filling out the form, include the child’s grade level.

The parade will feature special guests Peg + Cat from Alabama Public Television. Thanks to partners at the Church of the Highlands, parents and children will receive a sack dinner. Additionally, every child will be given a backpack filled with general school supplies based on their grade level. Participants will enter the parade route from Pineview Drive, turn left onto Shoshone Drive and exit at Overland Road.

“This event is a testament to the incredible community we have here in Shelby County,” said Brooke McKinley, executive director of Shelby Emergency Assistance. “We are thrilled to support families as they prepare for the new school year. This is one small way we can help take the burden off of families and ensure children are ready to succeed.”

Shelby Emergency Assistance shared that it appreciates the ongoing support from volunteers and community partners who make this event possible.

“Join us in celebrating the start of the school year and helping our community’s children thrive,” read an official press release.
