(Undated) The Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening more Disaster Recovery Centers in Iowa. A new center has opened in Creston—two more will open tomorrow in Nevada and Harlan.

Shelby County officials estimate significant agricultural damage stretching across 30 square miles, potentially totaling 75 million to 100 million dollars.

The National Weather Service says the tornado that ripped through Shelby County in late April formed east of McClelland, tracked north-northeast through the eastern part of Minden to the east of Tennant, then west of Harlan east of Defiance before dissipating just south of the Shelby/Crawford County line. The tornado began at 5:25 p.m. and ended at 6:29 p.m., tracking 40.9 miles. The estimated peak winds were 160 mph. The max width of the tornado was 1700 yards.

The National Weather Service says the EF-2 tornadoes sweeping through Union County, destroying several homes along Highway 34.
