Shelby County Fair Events for Wednesday
(Shelby Co) The Shelby County Fair begins with an Opening Flag Raising Ceremony at the Front Gate at 8:00 a.m. today. 4-H Table Setting will take place in the Exhibit Building from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Willard Olson Swine Contest is at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Best of Iowa Contest at 11:30.
New regional director named for Iowa Western Small Business Development Center
Elizabeth Christensen was recently named the regional director of the Small Business Development Center at Iowa Western Community College. America's SBDC Iowa named Christensen to the role in Council Bluffs in early June, according to a news release. The center serves entrepreneurs and small business owners in Pottawattamie, Shelby, Harrison, Page, Mills, Cass and Fremont counties.
Iowa DNR issues water advisory for Lake Manawa, Prairie Rose Lake
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is advising against swimming in Lake Manawa, along with 14 other beaches across the state. The DNR says swimming is not recommended in Lake Manawa because of E. coli concerns. Swimming is not advised in Prairie Rose Lake near Harlan in Shelby County; the same is true for Blue Lake in Lewis and Clark State Park across the Missouri River from Decatur, Neb.
DNR to hold meeting on deer hunting restriction in Council Bluffs
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will hear feedback Wednesday in Council Bluffs on a proposal to severely restrict the hunting of female deer in southwest Iowa. The DNR is seeking to implement the regulation in Pottawattamie, Fremont, Harrision, Mills, Monona and Shelby counties to increase the deer population in the region.
Shelby County Supervisors Approve Resolution Establishing a County Compensation Board
(Shelby Co) The Shelby County Board of Supervisors recently passed a resolution to establish a County Compensation Board, following the dissolution of such boards by the State Legislature. This decision empowered the Supervisors to determine the establishment of the board, which will have the responsibility of annually recommending wages for elected officials.
Shelby County Fair begins today (July 7) and runs through July 15th

(Shelby Co) Judging of the 4-H/FFA Dogs will be the first event of the Shelby County Fair today at 9:30AM. Club Booth Decorating is from 10AM to 2PM, the Open Class Steer, Heifer and Feeder Calf Show is at 11AM., and the final event of the day is the Open Class Dog Show at 1PM.

(Harlan, Iowa) – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office today (Wednesday), released a report on arrests that took place between June 4th and June 30th. Most recently:. On the 28th, 62-year-old Susan Yvonne King, of Harlan, was arrested and transported to the Shelby County Jail after a traffic stop on Willow St. King was charged with OWI-1st offense, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, and Driving on Wrong Side of Two-Way Highway. And, on the 27th, 37-year-old Lachelle Jean Petersen, of Atlantic, was arrested and transported to the Shelby County Jail on an active Shelby County warrant.
