Off-duty southeast Bullitt Co. firefighter recognized for heroic actions at Shelby County fair
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A southeast Bullitt County firefighter is being praised for his heroic actions after a man went into cardiac arrest at the Shelby County fair. A letter from the Shelbyville Police Department said on June 12, Firefighter Tatum Scharrer was at the Shelby County fair while he was off duty when a man went into cardiac arrest at the starting line-up of the dirt track. Scharrer was nearby and immediately stepped into action and performed CPR until Shelby County EMS arrived.
Local students excel in 4-H Tractor Driving Contest
The 2024 Spencer County and Central 5 & 6 Area 4-H Tractor Driving Contest was held on May 18 at the Spencer County Extension Office. All participants, from Spencer and Shelby counties, took a knowledge skill test, inspected the tractors, and drove through an obstacle course, while using the safety procedures that they learned in 4-H Tractor Driving School that morning.

After shooting and killing wife & mother-in-law suspect says ‘he had a job to take both females out’
A Shelby County man who told police “he had a job to take both females out” has been arrested for shooting and killing his wife and mother-in-law. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday arrested 32-year-old Michael T. Hunt, of Pleasureville, and charged him with two counts of murder.

Michael Hunt, 32, arrested for charges of killing of wife, mother-in-law
On Friday evening, June 21, two women, Beth Simmons and her daughter Emily Hunt, were shot at a residence in the Shelby County area of Pleasureville. Simmons died that evening of a gunshot wound, according to Shelby County Coroner Jeff Ivers, and Emily Hunt was transported by Shelby County EMS in critical condition to University of Louisville Trauma Center, where she later was pronounced dead.
