Concert for a Cause to benefit Wreaths Across America

ALABASTER – On Sunday, Oct. 27, The Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery will hold its annual Concert for a Cause featuring the beloved the Easy Street band of Alabama.

All proceeds from the event go to support Wreaths Across America at the Alabama National Cemetery. Easy Street is a well-known band around the Birmingham area, especially among dance groups, playing standards, rock ‘n roll, rhythm and blues and everything in between.

This concert will also feature a patriotic finale highlighting how your support makes an impact on veterans families during the holiday season.

“Thompson High School’s Performing Arts Center in Alabaster, will provide a comfortable and acoustically superb venue for the enjoyment of all in attendance,” according to SCALNC Fundraising Chairperson Nancy Barefield.

In addition to support from individuals, organizational sponsorships are also available. SCALNC is an all-volunteer charitable organization and all proceeds from its fundraising activities go to support the organization’s mission.

“WAA is a very special way to remember and honor fallen veterans who served and sacrificed for our freedom, while demonstrating to their surviving family members that their loved ones are not forgotten,” said Eldon Woodie, chairman, SCALNC. “With the help of wreath sponsors, during the holiday season, we are able to remember our fallen and bring comfort to their families by placing a live balsam wreath on each and every grave at the Alabama National Cemetery in honor and memory of their service and sacrifice.”

Lt. Col. Bourland was killed in the Haiti earthquakes in 2010 while on a humanitarian mission with the Air Force. His mother, Adrienne Bourland, is a member of the SCALNC. She particularly loves Wreaths Across America.

“In the years since Kenny’s death, I have laid a wreath at his grave and gotten to know many of the other family members with loved ones buried in the same section as my son. Now every year, because of the wonderful work of the SCALNC, I feel like in a sense, that I am still with my son for the holidays”.

This year more than 11,000 wreaths will be needed. The organization is asking that the community share this special fundraising event with friends, churches, Veteran Services Organizations and other community organizations.

This year’s Wreaths Across America Ceremony at ALNC will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 am.
