High temperatures and high humidity for the holiday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Hope you like it hot...because the heat is back with a vengeance just in time for the holiday stretch.

We have so many issues...lets start with the latest, a Code Orange Air Quality Alert until sunset for Shelby, DeSoto and Crittenden county. Limit time outside over the next few hours. Unfortunately, I think it's possible that we will see more of these in the next few days with fireworks making the situation worse.

    7-2-24 Code Orange

Next, the heat-we have an Excessive Heat Warning for most of the area where it will feel well over 110+ tomorrow 10am-8pm. The counties in orange are under a Heat Advisory where it will feel like 105+. We don't have one for the Fourth yet but, given that it is expected to feel just as hot, it will come down tomorrow most likely.

    7-2-24 Heat Alerts

We could also tie or break our temperature record tomorrow and Thursday. Tomorrow our air temperature is forecast at 99 and the record is 100 set in 1970. On Thursday we are forecast at 96 and the record is 100 set in 2012.

    7-2-24 Temps Record

Otherwise, when we see temperatures and dewpoints as high and tropical as they will be the next few days, showers and storms are expected. Isolated chances tomorrow double for the holiday and double again for Friday...mostly overnight early Friday AM.

It helps us cool down relatively quickly back to more average and somewhat tolerable numbers.

    7-2-24 Forecast

There is a level 1 threat for Severe storms along and North of 40 tomorrow and broader in this area by Thursday so it will be imperative that we are diligent about coming inside if we hear thunder and waiting 30 minutes after the last strike of lightening in our areas.

    7-2-24 Severe Storms

Keeping an eye on the tropics-Hurricane Beryl is now a Cat 4 and is hurdling towards Jamaica and eventually models have it making another landfall on the Yucatan near Cancun as a Cat 1 before potentially heading NE into the Gulf of Mexico.

    7-2-24 Hurricane Beryl

At that point, it is too far out to really say where it is headed but a few models have it heading up the Gulf and our way which would bring us higher rain chances with the storms remnants.
