    Close to 4,500 Shelby County voters cast ballots in “Super Tuesday” primary polls.

    Results reported here are based on unofficial returns from Tuesday night. A technical difficulty with precinct 1 returns prevented complete electronic results. Those numbers were handwritten on final electronic results distributed to the media at that time.

    Official results may vary slightly, but will not affect the outcome of any race.

    In unofficial returns, voters elected John L. Price county attorney over Jeff Adams 2,726 votes for Price to Adams’ 1,513 (64.31% to 35.69%). These results are complete and include handwritten entries.

    Gerald Corbell will face J.R. “Jimmy” Faulkner in a runoff. Corbell received 1,857 votes (42.45%) to Faulkner’s 1,620 (37.04%). Willis Blackwell was eliminated with 897 votes (20.51%). These results include handwritten entries.

    Debora Riley ran unopposed and was re-elected as county tax assessor-collector receiving 3,552 votes. Roscoe McSwain also ran unopposed and was re-elected as county commissioner in precinct 1 receiving 818 votes.

    Stevie Smith was re-elected to the county commissioner precinct 3 seat with 799 votes (60.08%). David Cheatwood garnered 531 votes (39.92%).

    Dee Dee Green will serve another term as justice of the peace precinct 4 after collecting 141 votes (54.44%) to Cristi Estes’ 118 votes (45.56%).

    Zack Warr ran unopposed for county constable precinct 1 and was re-elected with 1,499 votes (100%).

    Jamie Hagler also ran unopposed for county constable precinct 2 and was re-elected with 530 votes (100%).

    For county constable precinct 3, Roy Cheatwood will face Scott Burkhalter in a runoff. Cheatwood received 446 votes (47.75%) to Burkhalter’s 289 (30.94%). Fern Thomas Jernigan Jr was eliminated with 199 votes (21.31%).

    In precinct 4 Taylor Fanguy was re-elected running opposed. He received 299 votes (100%).

    Josh Tipton was also re-elected unopposed receiving 458 votes.

    Debora Riley was unopposed and re-elected to the office of County Tax Assessor- Collector with 4,315 votes (100%).

    Leigh Porterfield was re-elected Republican county chair with 3,291 votes (100%).

    Patsy Handy received 157 votes (100%) to serve as Democratic county chair.

    Briefly, in statewide races, incumbent State Representative Travis Clardy was defeated by challenger Joanne Shoffner. County voters gave Shoffner 2,709 votes to Clardy’s 1,444.

    U.S. Senator Ted Cruz captured the Republican seat and will face Democratic challenger Colin Allred in November. Allred received 76 of 168 Democratic ballots cast in Shelby County.

    U.S. Representative District 1 Nathaniel Moran won the Republican primary unopposed, and with no Democratic challenger on the ballot.

    Shelby County gave Donald J. Trump 3,757 votes as the Republican nominee out of a field of eight. The closest challenger, Nikki Haley, received 325 votes. “Uncommitted” received 87 votes.

    On the Democratic ballot, Joe Biden outdistanced a field of eight candidates receiving 143 of 168 Democratic ballots cast.

    All 13 of the propositions on the Republican ballot were approved by resounding margins.
