Monday was total solar eclipse day for parts of Texas and other states. Although just out of the total eclipse path, Shelby County was close enough for a 97-percent coverage of the sun, according to one tracker app at Univision. com.

Those taking time and precaution to view the solar eclipse enjoyed a rare celestial occurrence. The window of a near-total eclipse for Shelby County started at 12:25 p.m., peaked at 1:45 p.m., and ended at 3:25 p.m.

Groups, individuals, and school classes were out in force during the eclipse to get a glimpse of the history- making event. According to Space.com, the next total eclipse will occur on August 22, 2044. Totality will reportedly be visible in just three states: Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

While the moon has eclipsed the sun’s rays seven times in this century, Only two total solar eclipses have been visible from the United States during the 21st century. One was the total solar eclipse of 2017 visible across the country. The other occurred in 1918.

The April 8, 2024, eclipse was the third total solar eclipse visible in the U.S. with a path of totality across Texas up to the Northeast.
