A plasma donation center is in the process of opening a Shelby location, according to the city's planning department.

Brian Burgess, director of planning and development, said the site plan has been approved, and the company is in the building permitting process now.

The center will be located at 1336 E. Dixon Blvd. in the former Cleveland Floor Covering building.

According to the planning department, the name of the company is Parachute.

Parachute's website states that the Shelby location will be opening in 2024.

People can book donations through an app, come in during a scheduled time, and get paid.

"Whether it’s $40 for groceries, $1,500 for your mortgage, or $4,000 to put toward your retirement, it adds up. Parents, students, retirees, part-timers, and everyone in between can earn extra money for what makes life better," the website said. "All you need is a smartphone to start earning."

According to the website, after the initial visit, which includes registration, a health screening and physical, most donations take around an hour to make. People can make donations twice in a seven-day period, and can make up to $130 for the first two donations, the website said.

An email to Parachute was not returned in time for this story.
