SHELL LAKE — The Shell Lake Football Camp welcomed players back to the practices field this week, knocking off some rust and getting players ready for the upcoming team practices and the new season.

Coach Joe Johnson and his staff led his players through some light drills and stressed basics during the Football Camp, which ran July 22-26 for varsity players. There was also a Middle School Camp for younger players.

For the Shell Lake Lakers, playing eight-person football in the Lakeland West Conference this season, the new season is going to come fast. The first official practice begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Shell Lake will participate in the Clayton Scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 23. Junior varsity players compete at 4 p.m., with the varsity on the field at 5:15 p.m. Teams at the scrimmage will be Shell Lake, Northwood/Solon Springs, Clayton, McDonell Central Catholic and Prairie Farm.

The new football season begins on Friday, Aug. 30, when Shell Lake travels to Luck. The first Shell Lake home game of the season is the following week on Friday, Sept. 6, when the Lakers host Washburn.
