Marion gears up for National Night Out with police and community events
MARION, Iowa - National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. This year, National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The Marion Police Department is partnering with Marion Parks and Recreation, the Marion Public Library and the Marion Fire Department to organize a community-wide event from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Park, 343 Marion Blvd.
Women's Tennis earns all-academic honors, Nine Kohawks named scholar-athletes
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Coe College women's tennis team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for academic excellence earlier last week. Additionally, nine Kohawk athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, Alliandra Hagness, Amy Whitcomb, Carlie Miller, Chloe Palmer, Claudia Bilkey, Jaden Fuqua, Maddie Schultz, Maria Bello Escobar and Sophia Fain.
Fast-Growing National Burger Chain Coming to Eastern Iowa
One of the fastest-growing burger restaurant chains in the nation will be coming to Eastern Iowa!. KCRG reports that Atlanta-based cheeseburger chain Smalls Sliders is planning multiple locations in Eastern Iowa, prioritizing the cities of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Burlington. While the company won't say which city will get the first Iowa location, you can expect the first Iowa location of Smalls Sliders to open in 2025.

Davenport restaurant to reopen following sewer issues from flooding
A restaurant and bar in Davenport had to shut down temporarily because of problems caused by recent flooding. The Phoenix has been closed for three weeks. Restaurant managers planned to reopen Tuesday, July 23, but couldn’t because of a sewage backup in the bottom level. Managers say they’re used to the flooding, but they say the City needs to upgrade its sewer system. The temporary shut down hit the business and employees financially.
Shelter gives hope: King’s Harvest, Davenport, rescues starving dog
A starved dog in critical condition Tuesday has begun to walk and wag his tail thanks to the care at King’s Harvest Pet Rescue, Davenport. On Tuesday, someone brought the dog, wrapped in a sheet, in to the shelter, where staff discovered the dog was severely malnourished, had injuries on his back – likely from being kept in a crate a long time, staff told Our Quad Cities News – and could barely walk or lift his head.

25 of the 2024 'Herky on Parade' statues now have their very own bobbleheads!. Earlier this year, 100 new, unique Herky statues were unveiled and placed around the Iowa City area as part of the 3rd generation of 'Herky on Parade.' According to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame website, it was the "largest public art project Iowa has ever produced," and all 100 of the statues were painted by local or regional artists.
